Portuguese head coach was dismissed by Premier League side in January

Manchester United will face their former manager Ruben Amorim just months after the Portuguese landed himself a new job.

Amorim, who was sacked by United back in January with the Red Devils sixth in the Premier League table, has been appointed as AC Milan’s new boss to replace Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed after the Serie A side missed out on a place in the Champions League.

United, meanwhile, did qualify for Europe’s premier competition for the first time since 2023, under Amorim’s predecessor at Old Trafford Erik ten Hag.

Now, the Red Devils and Milan will face off this summer in a pre-season friendly in Wroclaw, Poland, on August 15, a couple of weeks before the start of the new Premier League campaign.

It will give both sides a chance to focus on their transfer rebuilds, with United targeting a host of players to overhaul Michael Carrick’s squad.

One of those is Ederson, the Atalanta midfielder, who is reportedly set to become their first arrival of the summer after a £38million package was agreed with the Italian club.

Another player of note is Milan forward Rafael Leao, currently playing for Portugal at this summer’s World Cup, with the 27-year-old angling for a move away from the San Siro.

Leao posted on his social media accounts that he was planning to leave the club after a disappointing campaign, and United are coincidentally one of the sides that are believed to be linked with him.

The reports go as far as saying that Leao has issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to clubs in England, including United, about a potential move to the top flight.

Leao scored 10 goals in 31 games in all competitions this term, but struggled to hold down a regular starting berth in Allegri’s side as Milan lost out on Champions League football on the final day of the season.
