Manchester United chief Omar Berrada has warned staff they could be sacked if they continue to leak confidential information to the media.

Several leaks have taken place at the club in recent years and Berrada has launched an investigation to find those responsible.

In a 580-word email, the 46-year-old issued a formal warning to employees on Monday, detailing that revealing confidential information will be regarded as “gross misconduct” and could result in their dismissal.

According to the Guardian, Berrada’s email hasn’t been received positively by some staff members who are concerned about losing their jobs.

He stated: “Anyone disclosing information outside of the club is breaching their obligations of confidentiality, and we are very clear that this will be considered gross misconduct. To protect the club and its colleagues, additional measures are being put in place to prevent future breaches of confidentiality and also identify any persons responsible.”

United supporters expected an improvement in their fortunes when Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS acquired a 25% shareholding in the club in December 2023.

However, things haven’t turned out well under Ratcliffe as performances on the pitch have been underwhelming.

Erik ten Hag was dismissed as manager in October following a poor start to the season.

Ruben Amorim was appointed as the successor, but results have further deteriorated under the Portuguese boss. They are now sitting 15th in the table, collecting just 29 points from 25 matches.

Around 250 staff have lost their jobs in a bid to reduce the club’s spending. However, Ratcliffe reportedly plan to make another round of over 100 redundancies due to the club’s stricken finances.

It is also said that the Red Devils are expected to slash their scouting department which has about 80 staff.
