Manchester United have agreed a £35m deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta next month.
The midfielder, who scored 16 goals in 180 games for the Series A side, will join on a four-year deal which is set to run until 2030, bringing his three years to the Italian side to an end.
Ederson, 26, who also has the option to extend his stay for a further year, started in 26 of the Series A sides 38 matches that helped his side secure European football in the UEFA Conference League.
Ederson has three international caps for Brazil and was not named in Carlo Ancelotti’s side for the 2026 Fifa World Cup across the USA, Mexico and Canada.
He becomes the first signing of the Michael Carrick era, after the departure of midfielder Casemiro, who played his final match at Old Trafford last month.
He is expected to complete his medical with United by July, in time for the club’s pre-season matches.
With United returning to Champions League football next season, Ederson will bring further depth in midfield and has the ability to provide a boost to the club’s ambitions.
The 2026/2027 Premier League campaign gets underway in August, and Carrick has set his sights high in the transfer window to find replacements for Casemiro.
Carrick is also pursuing a move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes and has been linked with Middlesbrough midfielder and Championship player of the season Hayden Hackney.
