In a recent report, Manchester Evening News claimed that Manchester United could move in for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been stated that the Red Devils could launch a move to bring the English talent to Old Trafford this summer.

Wharton’s Impressive Rise In English Football

Wharton had a solid campaign at the London club after he put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their midfield. The 21-year-old made 27 appearances for the Eagles last season, securing a couple of assists in the process across all competitions.

The English talent anchored the midfield well and deserves some credit for making 34 tackles, 11 blocks and 20 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 75.6% in league football (stats via fbref.com).

Wharton is under contract at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to snap him up on the cheap this off-season.

What Will Wharton Bring To Manchester United?

Wharton is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make some important interceptions for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer of the ball.

The English youngster can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth as a consistent performer at the highest level.

We can expect Wharton to bring more bite and steel to Man United head coach Ruben Amorim’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at Old Trafford next season.

At 21, the future looks quite promising for Wharton as long as he continues to improve with each year. However, Amorim has to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the gifted midfielder at the Mancunian club. With all things considered, Man United would be wise to try everything in their power to bring Wharton to the Theatre of Dreams before the end of this transfer window.
