As we slowly near the halfway point of the new season, the race to sign Adam Wharton is starting to intensify.
The Crystal Palace midfielder is regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League, with many expecting him to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
Wharton’s consistent performances in the English top flight have not gone unnoticed, with even Real Madrid interested in his services.
However, the pursuit of Wharton will not be a walk in the park for Los Blancos, especially with a host of Premier League clubs also keen on his services.
Diario AS reports that Manchester United are looking to get ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign Wharton.
The strategy from the struggling English club is to make an attempt to sign the Palace midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are even willing to splurge as much as €70 million to secure the signing of Wharton, who has yet to establish himself as a regular for the English national team.
This could prove to be a problem for Real Madrid, who have reportedly set a budget of around €60 million for the Palace midfielder.
Not to mention, the Spanish giants are unlikely to make a move in the January transfer window and would ideally like to wait until the end of the season.
United, therefore, may have an edge here. But Real Madrid will count on the player to be keener on moving to Santiago Bernabeu than settling for Old Trafford, especially knowing that he may have the opportunity to become the long-term replacement for Toni Kroos.
