Manchester United flop Antony delivered for Real Betis on Wednesday to deny Nottingham Forest a victory on their return to European competition in Spain.
The Brazil international struck a dramatic equaliser in the 85th minute, sneaking in at the back post to turn home Marc Roca’s cross.
This came after he brilliantly set up Cedric Bakambu for Betis’ opener in the first half.
Forest were in the ascendancy after a brace from Igor Jesus, but they squandered their lead to settle for a 2-2 draw at the Estadio de La Cartuja.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will be frustrated that they couldn’t make a triumphant return to European competition after 29 years.
Forest finished seventh last season to qualify for the Europa Conference League.
However, they were later promoted to the Europa League after Crystal Palace were banned from the competition for breaching multi-club ownership rules.
Antony endured a disastrous spell at United after joining the club for an £82 million fee in 2022.
The 25-year-old netted just 12 goals in 96 appearances, and was sent on loan to Betis for the second half of last season.
He revived his career in Seville, bagging nine goals and five assists in 26 matches.
His performances convinced the La Liga outfit to shell out £21m to make the move permanent this summer.
Their decision has been vindicated as Antony has made an impressive start to the new campaign.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini will hope the Brazilian continues his good form this season.
