Manchester United have been handed a significant boost in their search for a new left winger, with Rafael Leao officially confirming his intention to leave AC Milan.
Speaking to Sport TV, the 26-year-old Portugal international made no secret of his intentions, stating he has “given everything” to the Rossoneri and is ready for a new challenge in a different league.
“I think I’ve given Milan everything I could give,” Leao said.
“It’s a club that helped me grow a lot, supported me in tough moments, and I’m happy to have written my name in the club’s history.
“Everyone has their dreams, their challenges, the goals they want to reach—and I too want to try a new challenge in a new league.”
United have been linked with the dynamic winger, whose blistering pace and direct dribbling style make him an ideal fit for Premier League football.
Leao has previously hinted at a preference for a move to Manchester United, citing a childhood attachment to the club through his national team idol, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Milan endured a turbulent 2025–26 Serie A campaign, finishing fifth after a final-day defeat to Cagliari and missing out on Champions League qualification.
The aftermath—including the departure of manager Massimiliano Allegri and growing tension between Leao and the board—has weakened Milan’s position.
While the ‘magic’ Leao was once valued well north of £100 million, reports in Italy now suggest Milan are ready to sanction his departure to fund a major squad rebuild, and a bid as low as £43m could be enough to secure the winger’s services this summer.
