Manchester United are planning an ambitious move to strengthen their midfield.

Currently, United are working on signing Benjamin Sesko, as they look to complete Ruben Amorim’s attack, having already handed him Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

RB Leipzig are understood to be demanding north of €80m for Sesko. Their astronomical demands have not put off Ineos, who are nearing an agreement with the Bundesliga giants.

Interestingly, a report suggests United’s hierarchy are planning another high-profile raid to bolster Amorim’s squad.

Manchester United keen on Baleba

According to L’Équipe, the Red Devils are in the pole position to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The French publication claim United have “made a move” for the 21-year-old.

The information has been corroborated by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who reveals that United have “made contact” with the Seagulls, via intermediaries, to “explore the conditions” of a deal for the Cameroonian.

Brighton signed Baleba from Lille in 2023 to replace Moisés Caicedo.

After a slow start in England, Baleba has steadily developed into a well-rounded midfielder, capable of making his presence felt in and out of possession.

Baleba deal unlikely at this stage

Ornstein underlines that Brighton do not intend to sanction a sale of their 21-year-old star this summer.

The report states: “There is also a recognition on all sides that a switch now may be unrealistic, especially if United seal their proposed move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.”

Even if United fail to convince Brighton to part ways with Baleba, this move indicates Ineos are prepared to splash a considerable figure on a dynamic midfielder, much to the excitement of many fans.
