As has been widely reported already, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is one of the players that FC Barcelona are looking at for the summer transfer window.

With Robert Lewandowski set to turn 37 this year, the Blaugrana intend to have a centre-forward capable of taking over from him and have identified the Swedish ace as one of their targets, along with Alexander Isak of Newcastle United.

However, the competition for Gyokeres in the summer is expected to be very stiff, with several top clubs interested.

Manchester United hopeful of landing Gyokeres

One such club that are very much interested in signing Gyokeres in the summer are faltering Premier League giants Manchester United.

Indeed, according to the Independent, the Red Devils are hopeful of sealing the signing of the 26-year-old striker in the summer transfer window ahead of his other suitors, which also include Arsenal.

Manchester United are in need of an elite goalscorer and see the Swede as an ideal option, given his past working under Ruben Amorim.

A move for him in the ongoing January transfer window is not feasible and as such, they hope to secure his signing in the summer.

Manchester United have a good relationship with Sporting CP and while Gyokeres is keen on taking the next big step in his career, he would be open to the idea of working with Amorim again – which could give the Red Devils an edge.

As such, sources within the club say that there is hope that Manchester United can stave off other suitors and lure Gyokeres to Old Trafford in the summer.

Barcelona, for their part, see the 26-year-old, who has 32 goals already this season, as an important target.

But given the financial woes, they would likely have to make an important sale or even part ways with Lewandowski himself to make room for the striker.
