Manchester United will soon turn their attention to recruiting a striker, and lots of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of the summer.
While Ruben Amorim would ideally like a move for Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres, their wage demands and Champions League aspirations have meant a move has not materialised so far.
The Red Devils could be forced to fish from their B list of targets, with Randal Kolo Muani and Moise Kean figuring prominently in that list.
One player who has long been on the club’s list and has regularly been scouted is Samu Aghehowa of FC Porto. And as per CaughtOffside, United are monitoring his situation with interest.
Matthijs de Ligt will remember him well, with the 21-year-old single-handedly bullying the Dutchman during Porto’s 3-3 draw against the 20-time English league champions
The Spaniard netted 25 times last season, while also registering three assists, and as many as four Premier League sides are chasing his signature.
The Portuguese side are calm, with the Spain international’s current deal valid until 2029 while he has a release clause in the region of €100 million. They will not let their “unreal” hitman leave for anything less than €70 million.
“Premier League clubs are stepping up their efforts to sign up FC Porto’s young Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa. Aghehowa’s physical strength, speed and solid structure make him a player who can adapt to the Premier League.
“Sources have informed CaughtOffside that Aston Villa see Aghehowa as the ideal name to fill the gap in their attacking unit.
“However, Aston Villa are not alone in their pursuit of the player. Clubs such as West Ham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are also closely following the Spanish striker’s situation
“The Portuguese team aims to recoup around €70-75 million for the young striker, and they are in no rush to sell him. The player has a €100 million release clause in his contract.”
The striker’s age and profile makes him the perfect long-term project for INEOS but Amorim needs a readymade option currently instead of potential.
And despite Samu Aghehowa being physically equipped to deal with the rigours of the English game, he is young and might need time to adapt, something Amorim cannot afford at this stage given last season’s form.
Fans will be hoping a deal for Gyokeres or Osimhen is what the club pursue after tying up Bryan Mbeumo’s signature in the coming days.
