Manchester United have made a move for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, as per reports.
United are pushing to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s attack on the back of a very frustrating 2024/25 campaign. Among the non-relegated sides, only Everton scored fewer goals than the Red Devils in the Premier League.
The Mancunians have already added Matheus Cunha to their ranks, and are understood to be in talks with Brentford over a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
However, a report in France suggests INEOS intend to spend even more on new attackers.
According to L’Équipe, United are keen on signing at least two new forwards, including Mbeumo, and accordingly, they have shown interest in Nkunku.
The French publication claim United have begun initial talks with the France international’s entourage in recent days to explore the possibility of a switch to Old Trafford. However, they are yet to make an offer for the Chelsea player.
The 27-year-old is tied to Stamford Bridge until 2029 but he is thought to be prepared to leave Chelsea imminently after struggling for regular minutes under Enzo Maresca.
The ex-PSG man only made nine starts in the league under Maresca, scoring three goals and assisting twice in the process.
Despite his underwhelming time in London, Nkunku has the potential to be a shrewd signing for United. He is versatile enough to play as a wide playmaker as well as centre-forward in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
However, United’s pursuit might strongly rely on Chelsea’s asking price and at this point, no concrete negotiations have taken place.
If United manage to secure Mbeumo’s services, they may also wait for major sales in the same department before making further additions.
Amorim is reportedly determined to get rid of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho this summer.
