Manchester United have pulled out of a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Éderson after medical tests, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Brazilian will remain in Italian football after the operation was cancelled.
United had monitored the midfielder for months and an agreement had been reached at about £38 million, roughly R$ 260 million. The move has now been scrapped.
The collapse also denies Corinthians around R$ 2.36 million via Fifa’s solidarity mechanism, equivalent to 1% for training him between ages 20 and 22.
Atalanta believe Éderson is fully fit and expect him to rejoin the squad, after United changed course for this transfer window.
Éderson joined Corinthians in 2020 after terminating his Cruzeiro contract and stayed until 2021. He played 25 times and scored three goals, then was loaned to Fortaleza.
He was subsequently sold to Salernitana for €6.5 million, about R$ 39 million at the time. Corinthians held 70% of his economic rights and received roughly R$ 27 million.
His form in Italy led to a move to Atalanta, where he established himself among the leading midfielders and became a Serie A standout.
