Maya Le Tissier, Julia Zigiotti Olme, Simi Awujo, Lea Schüller and Layla Drury got the goals as The Red Devils eased through their fourth round tie.
Opponents Burnley play their football in the third tier, so it was always going to be a big ask of them when facing Barclays Women’s Super League giants Manchester United. With only a minute on the clock, the hosts opened up the scoring through captain Le Tissier, who shot from 35 yards out and the ball flew into the top right corner.
Jess Park then had an attempt blocked before Awujo’s strong strike was punched away by visiting keeper Kirstie Levell.
In the 21st minute, Zigiotti scored her first goal for Manchester United since signing for the club last season before Awujo soon added a third, the midfielder curling the ball perfectly into the top corner. That goal was also the Canadian’s first for The Red Devils.
Melvine Malard then hit the top of the crossbar and the ball fell back to the feet of Awujo, but Levell produced a big block to deny her.
On the stroke of half-time, there was a scramble in the Manchester United box but the visitors couldn’t capitalise.
Not long after the restart, January transfer window signing Schüller netted her first goal for The Red Devils. The German international headed the ball into the top left corner of the Burnley net.
Substitute Elisabeth Terland then had an opportunity to score, but her chance came to nothing before youngster Drury got a goal on her Manchester United debut. She met a cross from Hinata Miyazawa and sent a powerful strike straight into the back of the net.
Manchester United will learn of their Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round opponents when the draw is made on Monday.
