The future of Marcus Rashford at Barcelona is becoming increasingly complicated, with tensions now rising between the Catalan club and Manchester United.

According to SPORT, Manchester United are growing increasingly frustrated with Barcelona’s position regarding Rashford’s permanent transfer and are even considering damaging their relationship with the Spanish club if the situation remains unresolved.

What initially appeared to be a straightforward operation has now turned into a dispute over financial terms, leaving all parties facing uncertainty ahead of the new season.

Despite the growing tension between the clubs, it must be noted that Rashford himself remains committed to staying at Barcelona, where he believes he can continue rebuilding his career after an encouraging spell in Spain.

Man United refuse to back down

As per the outlet, Manchester United feel that the terms for Rashford’s permanent exit were already agreed when the original loan arrangement was negotiated.

The English club expected Barcelona to activate the previously discussed €30 million purchase option and complete the transfer without further complications.

However, Barcelona are trying to reduce that figure and renegotiate the conditions of the deal. That approach has not gone down well at Old Trafford.

Simply put, United are not interested in approving another loan agreement, nor are they willing to accept a payment structure spread across multiple instalments.

Their position is that the agreed amount should be respected if Barcelona wish to keep the forward permanently.

On the other hand, the situation has become even more delicate following Barcelona’s significant investment in Anthony Gordon.

Barcelona still hold an important advantage

Although negotiations have become tense, Barcelona still possess one factor working heavily in their favour: the player’s preference.

As such, Rashford remains fully focused on continuing his journey at Barcelona and has no desire to abandon that objective despite the uncertainty surrounding the deal.

His desire to stay could prove important if discussions between the two clubs continue over the coming weeks.

From Barcelona’s perspective, the club is understandably looking for the best possible financial conditions before committing to another major investment.

However, if relations between the two clubs continue to deteriorate, Barcelona could find themselves dealing with a much tougher negotiating partner than they anticipated.
