Manchester United are set to receive a significant boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford, as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia edge closer to returning from injury.

According to The Manchester Evening News, the two key players in United’s left-back position are nearing returns after long injury layoffs.

Shaw has been sidelined since February with a calf problem, while Malacia, who has been absent since May 2023, is recovering from a knee injury.

Shaw, in particular, has been a significant loss for United. His ability to contribute defensively and offensively has been sorely missed.

His absence has also left Ten Hag relying on Diogo Dalot as a makeshift left-back, disrupting United’s tactical balance.

The potential return of these two defenders is a significant boost for United, especially as they navigate a crucial stretch of fixtures.

Shaw is expected to be back in action after the international break, and he hopes to be available for the Brentford game.

While Ten Hag couldn’t confirm the Englishman’s availability for the weekend, the manager is optimistic about a swift return.

Malacia, meanwhile, has been making progress in training, with signs pointing towards a return to match fitness within the next few weeks.

Aside from the left-back crisis, several other players remain on the injury list.

Harry Maguire, who suffered a foot injury against Aston Villa, is expected to be out for a few weeks, while Leny Yoro and Mason Mount continue their recovery from longer-term injuries.

Alejandro Garnacho, meanwhile, withdrew from Argentina’s international squad with a minor knee issue but should be fit for Saturday’s match against Brentford.
