Barcelona are seriously considering keeping Marcus Rashford beyond this season and are satisfied with the numbers he has been producing at the club.

The only bottleneck in their plan to sign him permanently, however, is the €30 million buyout clause that they must trigger. While it is indeed affordable in today’s inflated market, Barcelona are hoping to find a way to work around it.

Their idea revolves around extending Rashford’s loan at the club for one more season and paying part of the clause now so as to officially complete the permanent transfer next year with the remaining payment.

Manchester United’s response

Now, as relayed by SPORT in a recent update, several reliable English outlets have confirmed that Manchester United are opposed to making any such accommodations.

The Red Devils feel like they have already let him leave for a fee far lower than what Rashford is worth, and thus refuse to cut down their demands, and even agree on a loan extension.

Instead, Manchester United will continue to urge Barcelona to pay the entire €30 million immediately this summer to sign him, as they do not have anything in it for them to agree to an extension of the loan.

Rashford, for his part, wishes to stay in Barcelona and grow to greater heights under Hansi Flick. It remains to be seen if the two teams can work out a compromise in the summer.

So far this season, the 28-year-old already has 23 league appearances and nine UEFA Champions League appearances for Barcelona. He has a total of ten goals and 13 assists to his name across all competitions.

His role, however, has seemingly dwindled in recent games and he has not played any part in the team’s two latest games.
