Garnacho was on Saturday told by manager Ruben Amorim that he has no future at the club, having days earlier spoken publicly on his displeasure at being omitted from the Europa League final starting line-up.

"Obviously it's hard for everyone," Garnacho told South American media in Bilbao after the loss to Tottenham. "Our season was s***. We didn't beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don't score goals, you always need more.

"Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today – I don't know. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next."

The Athletic reported on Saturday that Amorim told Garnacho in front of his team-mates to find a new club this summer, and the Argentine was absent from the squad on Sunday as United signed off for the season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

United embark on a money-spinning post-season tour straight after the game, where they will play two teams in Hong Kong before finally dropping the curtain on a "disastrous season".

Asked about Garnacho on Sunday, Amorim told TNT Sports: "Garnacho is a Manchester United player that is not in the squad today but he continues to be a Manchester United player."

"Everybody's going [to Hong Kong] because we have to go to meet our fans and give something to our fans on the other side of the world."
