The Red Devils hope to welcome back a key player from injury very soon
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has given a new timeline for Luke Shaw's return, whilst also delivering an injury update on Mason Mount.
Shaw has only made three appearances across all competitions this season as he suffered a setback last month following a fresh injury.
This occurred having only returned from a lengthy lay-off two weeks prior.
It was described as a “small” setback at the time amid hope he could return before the end of the year but the left-back has missed the last nine games.
Shaw will also sit out tonight's clash against former club Southampton, but Amorim is hopeful of having the defender available for selection before the end of the month.
"Luke Shaw is nearer than Mason Mount," Amorim told reporters. "Mason Mount will take a little bit longer. Luke, we'll see in the next week or two. We'll see if he's returning."
Amorim also dismissed any suggestion that Mount could miss the rest of the season after the midfielder was substituted just 14 minutes into the derby win over Manchester City last month after sustaining a fresh muscle issue.
The 25-year-old has since visited a specialist about his latest problem.

Shaw and Mount are not the only confirmed Man Utd absentees against Southampton as Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans remained sidelined and Diogo Dalot is suspended after his red card in the FA Cup third round penalty shootout win over Arsenal.
Though, Harry Maguire is doubtful and it remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford will be involved as speculation regarding his future rumbles on.
"Harry was sick in the last game," Amorim added. "He was dead in the end - and that's what I want from every player.
"[Playing against the Saints?] Harry, we will see. We cannot lose him, so we will see. Martinez, I think, is okay. Diogo cannot play - his fault!"
