Red Devils are said to be lining up move for Eagles midfielder after fine Selhurst Park form

Steve Parish has warned Manchester United that Crystal Palace are under no pressure to sell Adam Wharton.

The Eagles midfielder has enjoyed a strong start to the new season despite more injury concerns and continues to impress under Oliver Glasner, playing a key role in the team that won both the FA Cup and Community Shield at Wembley amid a long unbeaten run across all competitions that finally ended after 19 games last weekend.

Wharton’s consistently eye-catching performances for Palace have long since seen him linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Tottenham.

Reports this weekend stated that United were now plotting a move for the 21-year-old worth £60million, with under-fire head coach Ruben Amorim seeking midfield upgrades on the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro.

However, Wharton remains under contract at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2029 and Parish insists there is no pressure on Palace to sell another one of their prized assets after Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal in the summer and captain Marc Guehi - due to be a free agent at the end of the season - almost left for Liverpool.

Asked about a potential move by United for Wharton during an appearance on talkSPORT on Sunday, Parish said: “If Manchester United want Adam Wharton, that's nothing surprising really about that.

“The fact of the matter is he's got a long contract to run. There's no pressure on us to do it, and I don't think there's any real pressure from the player either.”

It has been claimed that Palace want to offer an improved contract to Wharton in a bid to convince him to stay, with suggestions that they could insert a release clause worth around £75m, similar to what they did with Eze.

And while Parish insists that the former Blackburn prodigy remains fully focused on Palace, he admits he will want to play Champions League football in the future.

“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club,” Parish said.

“He's an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can't speak for Adam, but I think he's focused on his time at Crystal Palace.

“He had a broken season last season with the groin issues that he had that a lot of young players get.

“I think this season he's completely focused on putting the games in, getting in the England squad, being a regular for us, and making sure that he can show that Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. It's a difficult programme for us right now.

“I think he's very committed to the club. I don't know where all this stuff comes from."
