Manchester United step into a crucial Premier League test at Selhurst Park this weekend, carrying both the weight of recent setbacks and the pressure to rediscover rhythm. With confirmed team news now shaping expectations, the focus turns to how Ruben Amorim balances a stretched squad against a Crystal Palace side also reeling from their own stumble in Europe.

United’s preparations have once again been complicated by fitness issues. Hopes of recalling Matheus Cunha, absent for the defeat to Everton after sustaining a knock in training, were dashed when Amorim confirmed the forward would not travel to south London. His absence compounds the continued unavailability of Benjamin Sesko, who remains sidelined as the medical team carefully manage his recovery.
Those gaps in attack were evident at Goodison Park, where United lacked a physical spearhead and were forced to hand Joshua Zirkzee his first start of the campaign. The Belgian worked tirelessly but the team’s attacking structure suffered, prompting renewed questions about depth in forward areas.
Defensively, the situation is no more straightforward. The loss of Harry Maguire to a hamstring issue before the international break opened a path for Leny Yoro to step in, yet the young Frenchman endured a difficult outing. His struggle to halt Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the build-up to Everton’s opener emphasised the vulnerability United displayed against a side reduced to ten men.
Amorim indicated Maguire will also be absent for this fixture, though he expects the defender, along with Cunha, to be in contention for the midweek meeting with West Ham United.
Despite both sides operating primarily in a 3-4-2-1 shape, Amorim was quick to emphasise the variance in approach when comparing United with Oliver Glasner’s Palace. While the Portuguese coach acknowledged similarities on paper, he underlined the distinction in structure, spacing and in-game patterns.
He noted how Palace have executed their system more effectively this season, and stressed the importance of continual learning and evolution in his own work. Amorim’s comments reflect both the tactical nuance he brings to the role and the reality that United remain a work in progress, particularly away from home where only one league victory has been secured this season.
The upcoming encounter pits two sides sharing recent frustrations. United’s five-match unbeaten run evaporated against Everton, while Palace’s strong form was halted in midweek during Conference League action. Both now seek an immediate response.
For United, the fixture represents a chance to reassert control and sharpen the attacking combinations that faltered in their last outing. With key attackers missing, the creative burden is likely to fall heavily on Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, while Zirkzee again shoulders responsibility up front.
Lammens; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Diallo, Mbeumo; Zirkzee.
Injured: Sesko, Cunha, Maguire.
Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm GMT on Sunday, 30 November 2025. The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and discovery+, with Selhurst Park set to host what promises to be a fiercely competitive meeting.
