Manchester United ‘two or three windows’ from complete squad

Manchester United feel the club are still ‘two or three more transfer windows’ from having the squad they want.

United invested more than £200m on new signings in the summer, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all arriving at Old Trafford. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens and teenage left-back Diego Leon also arrived as part of Ruben Amorim’s first summer in charge.

Despite that investment, the Red Devils are targeting four first-team starters over the upcoming windows. Among their primary targets are two central midfielder, a wing-back, and a central defender.

According to journalist Andy Mitten, the club have placed Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson on their shortlist but face competition from Manchester City and other Premier League clubs. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton are also admired.

“United know which areas they want to try and improve. United want a couple of central midfielders, another attacker on one of the wingers and a central defender,” Mitten said on the United We Stand YouTube.

These won’t happen over night and it’s still probably two or three more transfer windows before the squad looks as complete as how United want it to look — if United can get it to that point without changing coaches.

“I said a few weeks ago about Elliot Anderson being United’s number one target, and that is true, but Manchester City also want him because he is very, very good. Other clubs want him too.

United have other targets and they are well ahead of knowing what they want in the market. United will likely have money and they know the players they want.”
