Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has been named in the Euro 2024 worst XI.

The 21 year old had a rollercoaster of a season as he joined his boyhood club last summer and took the Champions League by storm, scoring five goals in six group games.

In spite of the success in Europe, it took Hojlund until Boxing Day to open his domestic account but he then had a purple patch over the winter, as he became the youngest United player in the Premier League to score in six consecutive games.

Injury against Luton Town broke his rhythm and he would only find the back of the net three more times in the season, although this did include two in his last two Premier League games.

The Daily Mail reports that Hojlund received some of the worst ratings from Sofascore in the tournament, putting him in the “top 10 WORST players of Euro 2024”.

He was given an average score of just 6.53 and the paper states that “Rasmus Hojlund’s first European Championship did not quite go as planned.”

Describing him as a “flop”, The Mail reports that “the Manchester United star left a lot to be desired in all of his four appearances in Germany, failing to find the back of the net in any of them.”

The Danes were knocked out 2-0 by hosts Germany in the last sixteen but failed to win any of their group games as they drew all three including a 1-1 result with England.

Hojlund remained on the periphery of a lot of the matches, as his teammates struggled to link up with him.

The youngster did miss a critical one-on-one opportunity versus Germany but it could also be understood as a fine stop by a world-class keeper in Manuel Neuer.

Commenting after his nation’s exit, he claimed that he felt a bit “guilty” but was also filled with “pride” after representing his country.

The Dane finished the season with a better chance conversion rate than Erling Haaland so clearly the talent is there. It must also be said that he finished top scorer for the club on 16 goals in a tough season for any striker at Old Trafford.

United will hope that he can recover from the disappointment of the tournament and will be optimistic that the signing of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee will help lighten the often over-burdening load of being the only out and out striker at the club.

Red Devils will be salivating at the prospect of these two young guns, with their contrastive style, working in tandem for years to come at the Theatre of Dreams.
