Manu Kone: Why United have made a move for French midfielder | OneFootball

Manchester United have quickly moved on from their failure to lure Aurelien Tchouameni to Old Trafford.

The French midfield powerhouse emerged as United’s “dream” target, with The Athletic recently claiming United were “ready” to make a move for him.

However, Tchouameni has now agreed to extend his contract at Real Madrid. In recent days, United have stepped up their interest in his compatriot. 

Manchester United eyeing Manu Kone

On Thursday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Manchester United have made enquiries for AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone.

It was suggested that if the Ederson deal falls through, a deal for the Roma star could be considered by United. The Atalanta man is set to undergo medical tests in England today.

Kone offers the same level of athleticism and physicality as Ederson. Furthermore, the 6’1″ Frenchman is technically more gifted than the Brazilian, having impressed with his ball-carrying ability.

Amid Tchouameni’s injury struggles at the World Cup, Didier Deschamps has frequently relied on Kone, who has provided strong presence in the middle of the park. In possession, France’s midfield has looked more fluid with Kone in the side than the Real Madrid star.

Roma willing to sanction cut-price deal

Now, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claims United continue to seek midfield reinforcements and have identified the 25-year-old as “one of the most promising prospects”.

It is understood Roma value Kone at €50m (£42.7m) and the Giallorossi will listen to offers for their star midfielder this summer, provided they meet their demands. 

The Serie A giants are in no rush to sell Kone, but there is an understanding that substantial offers could swiftly change the situation in Rome.

Meanwhile, Italian outlet La Repubblica (via RomaPress), claim United have made an approach “in the last few hours.”

It is underlined that United consider Kone a possible alternative to Tchouameni to strengthen the midfield.
