A 2-2 draw with Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon means that Munich’s historic winning streak is now history. FCB keeper and captain Manuel Neuer was the first to take responsibility for the fact that the Bundesliga record champions dropped points for the first time in any competition thus far this season.

The capital city club were able to take a shock lead at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in the 27th-minute in large part due to an error from Neuer. Union defender Danilho Doekhi scored the first of his two goals on the afternoon off a shot from about ten meters out on which Neuer cut a poor figure.

Neuer should have been imposition to save the shot, which came off a corner. Instead, Neuer let the ball slip through his fingers and roll over the goal line. The 39-year-old – who drew praise for his work as the man-of-the-match in Tuesday’s grueling Champions League victory over PSG – quickly admitted his mistake.

The view and distance weren’t ideal for me,” Neuer told Sky Germany. “But I made the wrong decision. Those set pieces really broke our back. The second goal was a second ball [that needed to be cleared by Harry Kane], but I also played a role in the first goal we conceded. It was hard to play here today.
