Marc Anthony will perform the national anthem before Inter Miami’s first home match at Nu Stadium this Saturday, with the game on Apple TV, the club said in a statement.
The evening will mark the start of a new chapter for the club, guided by its motto Freedom to Dream and echoing owners Jorge and Jose Mas’s journey as Cuban exiles in South Florida.
For David Beckham, it realises a plan that began in 2007 when he joined MLS as a player, continued with the push to return top-flight football to South Florida, and led to a state-of-the-art permanent home in the heart of Miami.
Anthony, a singer, songwriter, producer and actor born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, is the best-selling salsa artist of all time and an ambassador for Latin music and culture.
Now in his fourth decade as a recording artist, he holds dozens of RIAA gold and platinum certifications, has over 114 number one chart hits worldwide, more than 12 billion YouTube views and over 20 billion streams across platforms.
Renowned for a powerful voice and dramatic live shows, he is among the industry’s most prolific touring artists, with multiple entries in Pollstar’s Global Top Grossing Concert Tours lists.
Anthony’s bond with the club runs deep. Beckham, a close friend, has the Spanish rendering of the motto, Libertad Para Soñar, tattooed in Anthony’s handwriting. Given those ties, his anthem performance has been cast as a fitting choice.
