Four years after his Elland Road tenure ended, Marcelo Bielsa was welcomed by Leeds United supporters at Wembley as his Uruguay side drew 1-1 with England.

Fans carrying Bielsa flags sang his name outside the ground, with banners visible inside too. After full time, some approached the Uruguay team bus for photos as Bielsa smiled and waved.

On the pitch, former Bielsa loanee Ben White tapped in at the far post in the 81st minute to put England 1-0 ahead. Uruguay then levelled from a late, controversial penalty given for a foul by White, Federico Valverde converting for 1-1.

Before kick-off, Bielsa walked to the England bench to greet White.

"I simply said hello to him. Obviously I have known him for a very long time. I was just very happy to see him and happy to see how he has developed in his career so I simply just saw him as I was sitting there and it was an opportunity to see him and say hello."

He was speaking to The Athletic.
