Claudio Úbeda is no longer Boca head coach after Marcelo Delgado, the club's sporting director, informed him the club will not renew his contract, which runs until 30 June.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the pair met on Monday morning, a meeting Úbeda had said would follow the defeat at La Bombonera. The early Copa Libertadores exit prompted a decision that had long seemed likely.
He already understood he would not continue, and word of his departure circulated in the media the day after the loss to Universidad Católica. That defeat confirmed Boca will play the Copa Sudamericana in the second half of the year.
Úbeda, aged 56 and from Rosario, departs neither by dismissal nor by resignation. He had been Miguel Ángel Russo's assistant, taking over as head coach after Russo's death.
The board is now focused on appointing a new manager for the second half of the season, when the club will contest the Copa Sudamericana, the Torneo Clausura and the Copa Argentina.
Juan Román Riquelme's idea is to offer the job to an experienced coach on a deal running to the end of his presidency, at the end of 2027. He wants the new man in place before winter pre-season, planned for 18 June at Ezeiza.
