Lazio coach Marco Baroni is reportedly desperate to maintain the services of Pedro beyond the current campaign.
Despite celebrating his 37th birthday, the former Barcelona and Chelsea star has been enjoying one of the most prolific spells of this illustrious career. He has already contributed with six goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. In his most recent outing, he emerged as the ultimate hero after scoring the winner against Porto in the dying ambers of the Europa League contest.
Nevertheless, the veteran’s future remains uncertain, as his contract with the Italian capital side will expire at the end of the season. In a recent interview, Pedro belittled the importance of the subject, delaying it to a later stage of the season. However, Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) claims that Baroni is anxiously trying to convince the Spaniard to stay at Formello.
The Italian tactician appreciates the immense experience the 2010 World Cup winner brings to the table. The player has also been excelling in various roles in the final third, whether or the right wing, the left wing, or as an attacking midfielder–as it’s been the case in his most recent appearances.
The Roman newspaper notes that Pedro is still enticed by the prospect of returning to Spain, perhaps to his hometown club of Tenerife, and it remains to be seen if he’ll receive suitable offers from home. Regardless, Baroni is determined to keep his veteran for at least another year.
