Marcos Adriano has returned home after nine months of treatment for alcoholism and has received a Neymar-signed Santos shirt, a lift in his recovery. The former left-back is now with family support in Palmeira dos Índios.

According to Globo.com, the 1995 Brasileirão Bola de Prata winner was discharged last week after nine months in care. He previously played for Santos, São Paulo and Flamengo.

On Saturday, Neymar accepted an invitation to help and sent an autographed Santos shirt to Marcos Adriano. The shirt carries the number three, his name and the forward’s signature.

Family friend Bispo Filho delivered the gift to his daughter, Karmelita Duarte. He said Santos staff Marcos Santos and Paulo, moved by the situation, helped ensure the shirt carried the number three and Marcos Adriano’s name.

Bispo thanked Santos and Neymar for recognising the former player’s history at the club and said he hoped the gesture would encourage Marcos in recovery. Karmelita also expressed gratitude for the present.

Marcos Adriano has faced serious problems with alcohol, including arrest after assaulting his 90-year-old father in Palmeira dos Índios. He was sent to prison in 2025, then released from Cyridião Durval to undergo treatment, leaving the first clinic in December to continue in a therapeutic community. A new court hearing is due in October to determine whether the case is archived.
