Juventus have reportedly made a major move in an effort to beat Manchester United to the signature of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.
United have been tipped to bolster their defensive department in the upcoming transfer window, especially after last summer, when Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof departed but were not replaced.
This season, the Red Devils have benefited from a lack of European football, allowing them to focus their efforts domestically. However, with a heavier fixture list expected next term, they will need a much deeper squad to cope with the increased workload.
The need for more defensive options has been heightened by the uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire’s future. The England international is currently in the final six months of his contract, and has yet to agree fresh terms with the club. At present, he is poised to exit Old Trafford as a free agent when the season concludes.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Senesi is a target for United. Like Maguire, Senesi is on the brink of free agency. He has rejected several contract offers from the Cherries, believing that this summer presents the right opportunity for him to take the next big step in his career.
In addition to United, other teams mentioned to be eyeing Senesi are Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona.
Juventus have been said to be making the strongest push to snap up the Argentine.
Now, Tuttosport claim that Juventus have presented Senesi with a “take-it-or-leave-it” contract proposal.
The Italian newspaper says, “All eyes are on Argentine international Marcos Senesi, with further important talks expected with his representatives in the coming hours, following those already held at the end of January.”
“A four-year, €3 million-a-year contract is on the table to secure the centre-back immediately and then bring him to Continassa in July.”
“It’s a matter of: take it or leave it, otherwise the Bianconeri will look elsewhere.”
Juventus are eager to beat their rivals to the signing of Senesi, but as Tuttosport reports, they are unwilling to wait indefinitely.
