Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has hailed his relationship with Alejandro Garnacho, as the pair ran riot during a 7-0 win over Barnsley on Tuesday night.
Garnacho and Rashford were joined by Christian Eriksen in netting braces, while Antony successfully converted from the penalty spot to ensure United sailed through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Rashford started in the striker position, in what was his 200th home appearance. Both of his goals were assisted by Garnacho.
The 26-year-old spoke to Sky Sports (via club media) after the final whistle and had his say on his partnership with Garnacho.
Rashford remarked, “It’s important to have those relationships on the pitch but I think as a front unit, linking with the midfield, I felt we did very well today.”
“Before the first goal, it was a little difficult but after the first one, we found better spaces and we probably made better decisions in order to score.”
During his post-match comments, Erik ten Hag insisted that the goals will now start coming naturally for the rejuvenated Rashford.
The winger said about this, “It’s early to say but I hope so. We’ll move onto the next game now and just rest, recover and focus on the next one.”
He added, “Football is football – sometimes you have ups and, sometimes, you have downs. We have to use these games to find momentum, find consistency and try your best to bring your best level in each game.”
Rashford now has three goals in five appearances across the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. He certainly looked more confident against Barnsley and hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
Ten Hag himself noted that the Carrington academy graduate can have a huge say regarding how United’s season unfolds.
United will learn their Carabao Cup fourth-round opponents on Wednesday, September 25 after Liverpool’s clash vs. West Ham. That meeting kicks off at 8pm UK time.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag and his players return to Premier League action this weekend when they travel to Selhurst Park to take on Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side.
