Eager to make amends, Barcelona’s plans quickly unravelled as Sevilla took the lead in the 13th minute, with former Red Devil Alexis Sanchez calmly slotting home from the penalty spot.

Sevilla extended their advantage in the 37th minute when Isaac Romero capitalised on Jules Kounde’s error, producing a sublime finish to make it 2-0. Barca gave themselves some hope of mounting a comeback when Rashford pulled one back just before the break.

Pedri picked out Rashford’s run with a superb pass and the England international didn’t disappoint, sending the back into the back of the net.

The Blaugrana had a chance to make it 2-2 when they were awarded a penalty, but Robert Lewandowski missed. The visitors scored two further late goals to secure the victory against the reigning La Liga champions.

Rashford was Barcelona’s main attacking threat, but even his determined efforts couldn’t rescue anything from the contest.

Rashford’s performance vs. Sevilla

Aside from his strike, Rashford touched the ball 48 times and managed to find his teammates with 19 of the 22 passes he attempted (86% individual pass accuracy). Three of his passes were key passes.

The Carrington academy graduate connected with three of the nine crosses he delivered. Two of his shots were on target, including his goal at the stroke of half-time. He came close to adding another when clean through on goal, but his effort drifted narrowly wide of the post.

Rashford did not complete any of the four dribbles he embarked on.

The 27-year-old was involved in 12 ground duels, winning four of them, while also drawing three fouls and registering a single tackle.

In a worrying development for the Blaugrana, Rashford appeared to have picked up an injury, as he was spotted sitting on the pitch after the final whistle, visibly in pain and discomfort.

He was accompanied by Barca’s medical staff as he left the pitch. Supporters of the Catalan club will be hoping it’s not too serious.
