Enzo Maresca has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Manchester United in the Premier League tomorrow night, and he addressed a few interesting team news issues.

First up was the big Marc Guiu question mark. The Blues made a big effort to break off the striker’s loan to Sunderland after just a few weeks when they realised they needed him back to cover for the injured Liam Delap.

Yet after going through all that, not only has Guiu not seen the pitch, he’s amazingly not even been included in a match day squad. Joao Pedro has been run into the ground as our only forward, while Guiu must be wondering why he was brought back at all.

Maresca tells striker to “improve” if he wants to play

Maresca was asked about this today, and his response sounded pretty hollow:

“Marc is back. The reason why he’s back is because the intention is to use him,” the coach said.

“But he needs to do things better, he needs to improve things. And for sure, we’re going to use him.”

“For sure we’re going to use him,” is Maresca’s claim. And surely we will see him against Lincoln next week in the Carabao Cup. But will we ever actually see him in the Premier League? If we don’t that’s a pretty disappointing situation for him to be in after he just spent his first year at the club in a similar situation.

If he’s only going to play a handful of League Cup games, there were youth team strikers like Shim Mheuka who could have done the job. Hell, Tyrique George could have done it. It will be very interesting to see the squad list tomorrow.
