Marina Ferrari criticises Gianni Infantino plan, says football is not for sale | OneFootball

France’s sports minister Marina Ferrari has added her voice to criticism of FIFA after The Times reported that president Gianni Infantino wants to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

Ferrari called FIFA’s move to open its commercial activities to private investors a major turning point that raises very serious questions over governance and the future of world football.

She argued a project of such scale cannot be developed without transparency and consultation with national federations and other football stakeholders, adding that the process is as troubling as the plan itself.

The minister stressed that football’s values, integrity and its associative model must remain central to every decision.

France, she said, will be particularly vigilant, and no red line can be crossed. Ferrari maintains that football is not for sale and describes it as a popular heritage belonging first to those who bring it to life, the players, volunteers, clubs, federations and millions of supporters.
