Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool defender speaking ahead of the match at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United having played forty matches in total (all competitions) so far this season.
Twenty five wins, five draws and ten defeats.
Now set to face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Mark Lawrenson speaking to Paddy Power ahead of Newcastle United v Manchester United:
“Newcastle are playing really well and they’re scoring loads of goals.
“That midfield looks up there with anything in the Premier League at the moment.
“They’ll have too much for Manchester United who, as I say every week, are still all over the shop.
“Prediction: Newcastle United 2 Manchester United 0”
I can’t really disagree with any of that analysis from Mark Lawrenson.
Newcastle United hoping to make it five wins in a row in all competitions, whilst Man U have only won two of their last eight Premier League games and they were against soon to be relegated Leicester and Ipswich.
Newcastle have won four of the last five meetings between the clubs and the last two of those matches that have been played at St James’ Park, saw United batter Man U both times and the visitors very lucky to escape with only 2-0 and 1-0 defeats.
Their next match in the Europa League taking all of Man U’s focus and Amorim seemingly admitting the visitors are going to rest a number of players for this Newcastle game. It looks like a case of Man U setting up in an even more negative way than usual this afternoon, then a case of Newcastle United breaking them down, getting the first goal and forcing Amorim’s team out of their defensive shell a bit
Of course, no matter how poor/average the opposition, you have to ensure no encouragement for the visitors at the other end of the pitch. Sandro Tonali so important now in patrolling in front of his defence, especially with his pace when dealing with counter-attacks.
