Omar Marmoush helped his nation, Egypt, begin their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 comeback over Zimbabwe.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, with almost 80%, it was Zimbabwe who had the lead at the break.
Emmanuel Jalai set up Prince Dube, who placed his shot into the bottom left corner, on the turn, on 20 minutes.
In the second half, Egypt continued to overload Zimbabwe’s third, with Marmoush in an attacking midfield role that had him pulling strings.
The City forward then drew Egypt level on 64 minutes. He made a daring run down the left before breaking into the Zimbabwe box as he continued to dart towards the byline.

Marmoush cut inside slightly and then thumped a right-footed finish into the roof of the net from what looked to be an impossible angle.
His goal spurred Egypt on as they continued to push for a late winner.
And their efforts were rewarded in the first minute of added time.
Mohamed Salah registered his nation’s 11th shot on target, their final and decisive effort, that saw Egypt earn all three points in their Group B opener.
The Liverpool forward controlled Mostafa Mohamed’s cross from the left and showed great composure and experience to turn and place his left-footed shot just out of reach for Zimbabwe goalkeeper Washington Arubi.
Egypt will now turn their attention to a top-of-the-group clash with South Africa, who beat Angola 2-1 in their opening clash earlier today.
They will go head-to-head on Friday 26th December, with kick-off set for 15:00 (UK).
