According to a report from RMC Sport, Olympique de Marseille are looking to show Pol Lirola (27) the exit door this summer – as Roberto De Zerbi and the OM hierarchy see the Spaniard as surplus to requirements next season. Despite a vital equalising goal scored against Lyon earlier in the season (2-3), Lirola’s campaign just didn’t get going and his appearances were limited for Les Phocéens. With one year out until the expiry of his contract, Marseille are looking to offload Lirola before he can run down his contract and leave for free at the end of the 2025-2026 campaign. Lirola has always seemed on the periphery at the Olympique club. The Spaniard had returned to the club from a spell away at Elche during the 2023-2023 season, and at Frosinone during the 2023-2024 season and was not initially meant to feature in De Zerbi’s plans last campaign. But Lirola had covered during moments in OM’s campaign last season which saw a defence depleted on several occasions due to injury and suspensions. Les Phocéens are hoping their Summer recruits this term will be enough to fill the gaps in defence, especially in view of Champions League competition next season. GFFN | George Boxall
