Olympique de Marseille will be looking to rely more on young striker Robinio Vaz (18) following a shoulder injury for Amine Gouiri which will leave the Algerian international out of action for at least three weeks. Roberto De Zerbi has already given his vote of confidence to the 18 year-old striker, who scored his second goal of the season last weekend during OM’s 6-2 victory over Le Havre. “There will be no transfer or emergency signing. Robinio Vaz is ready to play; he deserves it,” said De Zerbi on the youngster at a press conference attended by Get French Football News. Vaz has been knocking on the door of the first team since making his debut for club in January 2025.According to a report from La Provence, Marseille rejected several loan offers for the player, even turning away several early enquiries from several Premier League sides after the youngster made his debut for the club. “If you look across Europe’s top five leagues, there’s no other 2007-born player quite like him,” a senior figure at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus training centre reportedly told La Provence. “He’s fast, powerful, fearless — and he’s improving technically every week.”That faith is set to be tested again. With Gouiri sidelined De Zerbi will not seek a replacement — either via a Ligue 1 joker signing or UEFA’s injury exemption clause, already used to replace Facundo Medina. Instead, Vaz will compete directly with Aubameyang for one of the two central attacking roles. The 18-year-old is currently only behind Lamine Yamal among the most impactful players born in 2007 in the current season: in 125 minutes he has already scored twice and provided two assists. Tomorrow’s clash against Sporting Lisbon could see the youngster make his UEFA Champions League debut.GFFN | George Boxall
