Appointed as Roberto De Zerbi’s replacement on the Olympique de Marseille bench nearly two months ago, Habib Beye is still struggling to win over observers and fans of the Provence-based club. And although his contract commits him until June 2027, the question of whether he will remain in the role beyond the current season is already on everyone’s lips.

A subject on which Stéphane Richard, recently appointed to the presidency of OM, has also spoken out, calling for patience towards the 48-year-old manager. “He only just took up his post in February,” the chairman pointed out in an interview with RTL. “The objective is clear: to finish the season successfully, with the stakes involved in the Champions League. Let’s let him get on with his work; he’s taking it seriously. One thing at a time.”

In other words, nothing has yet been decided regarding Beye’s future at Marseille, as the latter is closely tied to the club’s qualification for the next edition of Europe’s premier club competition. Currently sitting in fourth place in the table, one point behind Lille (3rd), one point ahead of Olympique Lyonnais (5th), two ahead of Stade Rennais (6th) and three ahead of AS Monaco (7th), Marseille will need to navigate the rest of the season carefully if they are to finish on the podium, which would secure direct qualification.
