Marti Cifuentes gives unconvincing answer on Harry Winks amid fresh Leicester omission | OneFootball

Marti Cifuentes again sidestepped questions over Harry Winks after Leicester City left the midfielder out for a second successive match.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Winks was not in the 20-man squad at Bristol City on Wednesday night, following a Derby omission described as a technical decision, despite injuries leaving City short of senior midfielders.

Cifuentes said the Bristol call matched Derby’s reasoning, but when asked if Winks was still training he avoided a yes or no, stressing the contributions of those selected and noting City have taken four points from their past six.

Pressed again, he praised Oliver Skippy’s recent displays and work ethic, and noted Louis Page, Silko Thomas and Bade Aluko getting minutes as a positive for the club’s foundation.

Asked if Winks would be available to face Ipswich on Saturday, Cifuentes said he would, after a pause.

The answer did not convince, and it would be no surprise if he is left out again against the Tractor Boys.

Winks, 29, has just over six months left on his City deal, and his recent absence from squads could place him in the frame for a January move.
