Martin Keown has emphasised the significance of Arsenal’s opening six Premier League fixtures, suggesting that the results could play a decisive role in determining whether the Gunners can finally lift the league title.

Arsenal face a difficult start to the season compared with many of their rivals, with several high-profile clashes arriving in quick succession. From their opening match, they are set to meet Manchester United, a fixture that will demand intensity and focus from Mikel Arteta’s side. Beyond that, their first six league games also include tests against Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United, all of whom are expected to be strong contenders this season.

A Tough Opening Run

The schedule presents a daunting challenge, and supporters will no doubt expect Arsenal to secure positive results in at least some of these fixtures. While it is too early to predict outcomes with certainty, the way the Gunners perform during this run could shape the trajectory of their campaign.

Liverpool, for example, began the season with a victory over Bournemouth, yet they featured at least four new signings in their starting line-up. The process of blending fresh arrivals into a functioning unit could take time, and Keown believes this may present Arsenal with an advantage should they manage to find form early.

Keown’s Perspective

Speaking on the BBC, Keown explained why he believes the first phase of the campaign is so important, while also offering reasons for optimism. He said:

‘The first six games of the season – including Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle away, and Manchester City at home – are going to be key.

‘But I am going to turn what might have been a negative for Arsenal into a positive, because Liverpool’s new players will be bedding in, City have had a reset, and Newcastle have endured a difficult summer.’

For Keown, the challenges ahead should not be viewed purely as obstacles but rather as opportunities to gain momentum and confidence. If Arsenal can capitalise on their rivals’ adjustments, they could position themselves strongly in the title race.

The season will be long and demanding, but the early fixtures represent a valuable chance for the Gunners to make a statement. Success in these games could not only provide a platform for their campaign but also reinforce the belief that they have all it takes to finally be crowned champions of England.
