Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood’s future has taken a fresh twist. The Englishman is coming off a decent season with Marseille and is generating interest from across the continent.
The Red Devils are also keeping a close watch on the developments at the Stade Velodrome and for good reason too. The English giants reportedly have a massive sell-on clause, believed to be around 40%, in the player’s contract which could be a big factor in their summer plans.
United are expected to spend big this summer once again after finishing third in the Premier League last season. The Red Devils’ impressive rise in the second half of the campaign was influenced by some wise investments in the transfer market last summer.
Senne Lammens, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all cemented their place in the starting XI, and INEOS are now hoping for a repeat in the midfield this summer. Funds raised from Greenwood’s sale, as such, could be redirected towards summer purchases.
Greenwood was once tipped to take Old Trafford by storm after exploding onto the scene under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, off-field issues derailed his career and ended his stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Englishman left permanently in the summer of 2024 to join Marseille and has since been a revelation in Ligue 1. Last season, Greenwood registered 26 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person states that AS Roma are keen to secure his signature this summer. Fenerbahce were also mentioned as potential suitors, with presidential candidate Hakan Safi claiming that he would sign Greenwood if elected.
Unfortunately, Safi lost the election to Aziz Yildirim, putting talks of a move for the Englishman on hold. A fresh update, however, now suggests that the transfer could be possible this summer.
According to L’Equipe, Fenerbahce have agreed personal terms with Greenwood ahead of a move this summer. The report states: “Safi never had the opportunity to make a formal offer to Olympique de Marseille, but he was not lying about the contractual aspects: he had an agreement with Greenwood, his father and his lawyer, the latter having played a key role in the negotiations.”
“The Turkish club’s new management has renewed its efforts in recent days to approach the 24-year-old Englishman and his entourage with a generous and compelling salary offer.”
“They are keen to sign Greenwood, but in discussions with Marseille, the figures on the table (€30 million, plus bonuses) are a long way from the Marseille club’s demands, as they will not consider a sale for less than €50–55 million.”
The report adds that while Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal are interested, they can only sign Greenwood following player sales. Meanwhile, Roma are currently focusing on trimming their squad, even though manager Gian Piero Gasperini is eager to sign the Englishman.
Contrary to recent reports, Marseille are under no pressure to accept a reduced fee for Greenwood. A source with knowledge of the situation told L’Equipe: “Many suitors also believe that Marseille will sell Greenwood off cheaply this summer, because the club is forced to offload players. But they’re wrong – there’s too much at stake, both symbolically and financially, in this case.”
United will hope that a swift resolution to Greenwood’s future can be reached, which will help secure a significant windfall. However, all signs indicate that this saga could drag on all summer.
