A few minutes before kickoff for Roma vs. Atalanta, sporting director Frederic Massara spoke to DAZN about the turbulent times at Trigoria.
Massara: “Tensions? We’re focused on the pitch, we want to finish strong,” he said.
Amid tensions between the coaching staff and management, and the management of expiring contracts, the executive attempted to refocus attention solely on the Champions League objective.
Regarding the management of recent internal tensions, Massara responded: “We’re all focused on the pitch, we’re absolutely determined and want to finish strong. There’s a big objective potentially up for grabs, which depends on difficult matches like tonight’s. But we’re all focused on the league.”
Then, again on internal tensions: “There’s a dialectic at every club, and we’re all focused. We have daily discussions aimed at the team’s growth. We’re all focused on this; there’s no problem whatsoever.”
Regarding the players whose contracts are expiring, he continued: “There’s an open dialogue with all four players and their agents. We’ll evaluate whether there’s the right conditions and mutual desire to continue together. All discussions are open.”
Finally, on the few points earned in the big matches: “It’s true, we’ve lacked victories, but never performances. This team has won a lot; tonight is a new opportunity to show that we’ve grown and are growing. If, despite this objective fact, we’re up there in the standings, it must mean something.”
