Liverpool 4-1 Athletic Bilbao: Rio Ngumoha Steals the Headlines Once Again

Liverpool began their double-header against Athletic Bilbao with an impressive 4-1 win over the Spanish side.

It took just two minutes for 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha to steal the headlines once again with another brilliant finish, very similar to his goal against Yokohama FM last week, to give the Reds an early lead.

Just minutes later, the young forward was involved again. Some nice build up play saw Ben Doak pluck a cross to the back post, where Ngumoha was on hand to nod the ball back across goal for Darwin Nunez to turn home.

After two goals in the opening five minutes, the game settled down. Youngsters Trey Nyoni and Luca Stephenson built into the game and put in solid displays alongside the experience of Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones.

In the 42nd minute, Liverpool extended their lead as Doak raced through and saw his effort ricochet off Alex Padilla and into the back of the net.

Half-time saw new signing Armin Pesci replace Freddie Woodman in goal. Wellity Lucky made his senior debut after replacing Mac Allister, whilst Jayden Danns also returned from injury.

The Reds were at it again when Harvey Elliott smashed the ball home from close range to take the scoring to 4-0.

Academy duo Trent Kone-Doherty and Tommy Pilling also made appearances.

With 14 minutes to go, Gorka Guruzeta nodded home a consolation goal for Bilbao.
