Leipzig may currently be on a winning run but they rarely return home from Frankfurt with any points in the bag. The Eagles will have to watch out for Yan Diomande though.

Tactics

Head coach Ole Werner is in his first season at the club and tends to send his side out in an attack-minded 4-3-3 formation. After suffering an injury, goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi is set to be replaced by Maarten Vandevoordt, while David Raum, Castello Lukeba, Willi Orbán and Ridle Baku are the first-choice back four. Lukeba has recently been sidelined through injury though and, like centre-back partner Orbán, is rated doubtful this weekend, so El Chadaille Bitshiabu could come into the side.

Up front, Antonio Nusa, Romulo and Yan Diomande are the danger men. “Leipzig like to have the ball,” said Eintracht head coach Albert Riera. “We’ll have to make life as difficult and uncomfortable as possible for them. We’ll have to annoy them when we don’t have the ball.”

Absentees

Werner will be without Xaver Schlager, Ezechiel Banzuzi, Suleman Sani, Leopold Zingerle and Viggo Gebel.

For the Eagles, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Nnamdi Collins, Rasmus Kristensen and Kaua Santos all miss out.

One to watch: Yan Diomande

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is the only teenager to have scored more often than Diomande across Europe’s top five leagues this season. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international is making waves at Leipzig, and has registered 11 Bundesliga goals and seven assists so far this term. At home on the left wing, he constantly forces opposition defenders onto the back foot.

Furthermore …

  • … Diomande became the youngest Leipzig player ever to score a hat-trick when he hit a treble in the reverse fixture against Eintracht.
  • … since detailed data collection began in the Bundesliga, only two teenagers have recorded more direct goal contributions in a single season: Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz.
  • … he has scored three goals in nine senior international caps for Ivory Coast. He began his career in his homeland, before making his way to Germany via the USA and Spain.

Facts and figures

Leipzig have won five of their six most recent league games, including the last three. Bayern Munich are the only team to have earned more points since Matchday 24.

Eintracht have never lost to Leipzig in the heart of Europe. There have been five draws from the nine league meetings in Frankfurt so far, with the Eagles winning the remaining four. Of those, two of the last three have ended in 4-0 victories, most recently in April 2025.
