According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid’s new sporting director, Mateu Alemany, is planning a summer move for Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.
It must be noted that the Danish centre-back, whose contract at Barcelona runs until 2026, could be on the move if the club decides not to offer him a renewal.
Christensen has faced challenges with injuries over the past seasons, but his experience and quality at the back have kept him a valuable asset for Barça.
While Barcelona are still debating whether to extend his contract, Christensen has expressed a desire to stay if the conditions are right.
This uncertainty has caught the attention of Atletico Madrid, where Alemany has already identified the defender as a potential signing.
Mateu Alemany brings with him a clear vision for strengthening Atletico. He prefers players he knows well, and Christensen fits this profile, having been signed by Barcelona during Alemany’s previous tenure at the club.
This familiarity is seen as a key advantage, as it could smooth negotiations and ensure a quicker adaptation should the transfer go through.

If Christensen becomes a free agent in 2026, Atletico would have the chance to secure a defender with European experience without paying a transfer fee.
From Christensen’s side, he would be willing to stay at Barcelona if presented with a strong project, but the club has yet to make a formal decision on renewal.
Some reports suggest that Barcelona may not extend his contract, which would make a move to Atletico more likely.
For Barcelona, letting Christensen go would also reduce wage costs, especially given his high salary and recent injury struggles.
However, the outcome will depend on the player’s willingness and the strategy of both clubs.
If Barcelona refuse to offer an extension, Atletico could land a proven centre-back at no cost.
