Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has revealed a personal transfer plea he has repeatedly made to Casemiro ahead of his imminent exit.

United departure

Earlier this year, Casemiro announced that he will leave United at the end of the season, once his contract expires.

United had the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months but opted against it, presumably to offload his massive wages off the books.

But Casemiro hasn’t skipped a beat, delivering crucial performances that have helped United consolidate their position in third place.

The Brazilian scored the opening goal of the afternoon as the Red Devils cruised to a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday. He got on the end of a sublime delivery from Bruno Fernandes, nodding it home to break the deadlock. Cunha and Benjamin Sesko scored the other goals to seal the victory for the Red Devils.

Soon after Casemiro found the back of the net, United fans broke into a chant of “one more year, one more year”, clearly urging the five-time Champions League winner to stay.

Michael Carrick was asked about this in his post-match press conference and offered little hope that United will perform a U-turn on Casemiro’s future.

Cunha spoke to journalist Fred Caldeira and revealed that he has been trying to persuade Casemiro to stay.

Cunha’s plea

Cunha told Caldeira, “I’m always asking him: ‘Come on, stay at Manchester United! Just one year with me, no! Let’s go for the second little year…'”. We’re very close.”

“He’s always helping me, and it’s incredibly rewarding to play with him here and with the National Team.”

Cunha added, “I always learn from him and understand more and more how he won so many titles.”

“He’s reached a stage where he can decide where to play, and I hope it’s with us.”

United return to action on Friday when they go away to Bournemouth.
