Matheus Pereira returned from injury as a starter in Corinthians’ goalless draw at Chapecoense on Thursday night, then criticised the synthetic surface at Arena Condá.

The number 23 had been sidelined with a left hamstring problem sustained in the 1-0 win over Athletico Paranaense exactly one month earlier.

"This synthetic pitch is not acceptable. It is very difficult to play on this type of surface, it is very poor. They need to sort it out and play on natural grass. It changes everything, the pitch and the ball as well. The synthetic surface even increases the risk of injury for us players. So it needs to be changed."

He told Amazon Prime Video.

Arena Condá has used a synthetic surface since April last year. Four other Série A clubs also play home matches on artificial pitches, Athletico-PR at Arena da Baixada, Atlético-MG at Arena MRV, Botafogo at Nilton Santos, and Palmeiras at Allianz Parque and Arena Barueri.

With Matheus available, Corinthians face Flamengo at Neo Química Arena on Sunday. The Clássico das Multidões is set for 20:30 and counts as the eighth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro before the Fifa window.
