Sunderland’s interest in Roma playmaker Matias Soulé remains at a preliminary stage, while Crystal Palace appear to be closing on Oscar Mingueza.

Sunderland Echo reports that the Black Cats’ look at the 22-year-old is only a tentative inquiry, with no negotiations under way. Soulé is understood to have little intention of considering offers for now, though that could shift later in the window if Roma recruit heavily in his role.

For the moment Sunderland are monitoring rather than moving, and will keep assessing attacking options as preparations continue for a significant Premier League and European campaign under Régis Le Bris.

Soulé joined Roma from Juventus last summer after a productive loan at Frosinone. The left-footed Argentine is regarded as one of Serie A’s more exciting young attackers.

Meanwhile, Spanish international Mingueza, previously linked with Sunderland, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton and Fulham, now appears bound for Crystal Palace on a free transfer after talks with several clubs.
