Mats Hummels admits Roma frustration: “I don’t know why I’m not playing.” | OneFootball

It has been a complicated start to life at Roma for veteran defender Mats Hummels.

Since joining the Giallorossi late in the summer, the 35 year-old remains the only player in the first team not to feature in a single game yet this season.

The German, runner-up in Europe last year with Borussia Dortmund and a starter in the Champions League final, was favored to start last night against Dinamo Kiev—even admitting in an interview earlier in the week that he expected it.

Despite the anticipation for his debut, the defender was left on the bench as an unused substitute.

According to today’s edition of Il Messaggero, Hummels encountered a small contingent of Roma fans after yesterday’s win and admitted, “I don’t know why I didn’t play.”

Adding, “I’m at the manager’s disposal, if they let me play I’ll be ready.”

Hummels’ situation is difficult to understand as both the club and manager Ivan Juric haven’t provided many answers. Furthermore, it’s a mystery when he’ll finally make his debut given last night’s match was, on paper, the “easiest” of Roma’s upcoming fixtures.
